Just found and bought five 20rd mags from the states (evike.com). Had to pay import etc on them but they arrived yesterday and look the part and feed well especially as they were only $12. They're full metal and hold about 200rds. Do have to pay about $25ish for shipping but I think it's probably worth it. Only problem I've had is that I think my original five cell mag holder has shrunk over time as the covers don't reach all the way over the mags to clip into place

They look pretty good. Does anyone know if you can convert these hi caps into mid or low cap magazines?

Regards,

Ralph

Yes, you can convert hi-caps to low caps. The easy way will provide you with only about 15-20 usable rounds, but you can fit more is you do a bit more "chop-work" to the internals and replace the feed tube part with a longer full U-shaped one home-made from bent aluminium tubing (tip: cut a 'comb' of slots at 1mm spacing 50% of the way through the tube where you want it to bend to aid tighter curves.

Blimey. Not sure if my technical skills and tools are good enough for that. Could give it a go though as they're pretty cheap.

I just bought the short TM ones, they hold around 110 rounds but look like 20s.

May not fit every gun of course.

Is it just me, or does this strike anyone else as a job for 3d printing or CNC routing?

Sounds awfully modern for us lot ,most of us needed instructions to use lipo battery's let alone this 3d printing of witch you speak ,sounds like startrek to me .

I do have some experience with Solidworks and designing components from my Software Engineer days, but I know that it would cost a fair bit of money to get just one magazine printed (at least it was a couple of years ago when I was still in the trade).

Little bit of research and it would cost about £31 per magazine to print. Main problem is the actual designing it.

Certainly doable but it's a matter of cost.

I was thinking more about making replacement internal parts. to convert a hi cap to a mid.

And I'm a proponent of CNC milling/routing, rather than 3D printing.

The tracks could be CNC routed into a solid block of plastic in 2 halves. Way faster AND cheaper than 3D printing.

Sounds like it holds some promise. I don't have too much practical experience with cnc machining personally but I have seen others do miracles.

Ralph
